Softball Earns MWC Sweep of Beloit

BELOIT, Wisconsin - The Knox softball team ended this sunny Saturday with a conference sweep against Beloit.

The Fire came to play today, and made sure to be the first to score in game one. Knox plated two runs in the top of the second inning. Beloit fought to score some runs of their own, and eventually did in the bottom of the fourth. Going into the final inning the Fire was up 2-1, but decided it wasn't enough. A big double from Haylee Carpenter plated two more runs and allowed the Prairie Fire to add a little extra cushion going into the bottom of the 7th. The Fire sealed the deal in game one with a 5-1 win.

Knox carried their energy and momentum into game two determined to leave Beloit with a sweep. Once again, the Fire scored first with one run in the top of the second inning. Knox was able to hold Beloit off for a little bit longer in game two, and only allowed one run from Beloit in the bottom of the fifth. The game continued tied 1-1, forcing the two teams into an eighth inning. Knox handled the eighth inning with ease. Another big double from Carpenter in game two put the Fire in the perfect position to win. The game ended with a 3-1 Prairie Fire win.

Lacey Miller led the Fire with four hits on the day. Carpenter wasn't far behind with three hits. Liv Dunn recorded a triple in game two. Ally Hyde and Mimi Schweitzer both earned wins in the circle today.

"Really proud of the team for getting the first sweep of Beloit softball in Knox history" stated head coach Erin Clark. "The team did not let up at all today and that is exactly what we need to continue to be successful, and are looking forward to our next conference rival."

The Knox softball team will get back to action on April 13th for a non-conference competition against Greenville University.
