GRINNELL, Iowa - The Prairie Fire baseball team dropped a conference doubleheader at Grinnell on Saturday.

The Pioneers scored three runs on a few misplayed fly balls in the second inning of game one to give them an early lead. Grinnell added another run in the fourth inning before Knox got on the board with two runs on a bases loaded single by Tucker Sams. The Pioneers added a run in the eighth to earn a 5-2 victory.

The Prairie Fire tallied a run in each of the second and third innings to take an early advantage in game two. Grinnell grabbed the lead with three runs in the third, but Knox responded with two runs in the top of the fourth. The Pioneers would go on to score six unanswered runs to win game two 9-4.

Sams led Knox with three hits on the day, while Joe Williams, Jason Clark, Andrew Garrett, and Etienne Thomas each notched two hits on the day.

"We played better baseball today than we have been, but the offense fell off in the late innings of both games," said associate head coach James Clark. "Our pitchers kept us in the games, but we just had a few too many mistakes."

Knox will return to action for their season finale on May 7 as they host Grinnell for the final game of the three game set. The Prairie Fire will honor seniors Brayden Bathgate, Ira Moore, Braden Ogden, Tucker Sams, and Jacob Verduin before the game.
