GALESBURG, IL - Men's soccer defeated Grinnell College 2-1 in their conference opener Wednesday afternoon.

Adrian Segura put Knox on the board first with a goal in the 24th minute of play. Grinnell was quick to respond with a goal of their own less than a minute later leaving the score tied 1-1. 

Emmanuel Mariano gave Knox the lead again in the 39th minute with an assist from Segura. The score remained 2-1 for the remainder of the game and the Prairie Fire earned their first conference win of the season. 

The teams were pretty evenly matched today with 12 shots each, but Knox held a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal.

"We knew today was going to be a tough match for us, and I am proud of us for being able to pull away with a win " said Head Coach Kevwe Akpore. "We are going to take the excitement and energy from today's win and use it as we continue on with conference play."

The Prairie Fire will return to action on September 30th for another home match against Lake Forest College.
