BLOOMINGTON, Illinois - The Prairie Fire women's soccer team fell to Illinois Wesleyan 4-0 on Wednesday night. The Titans were receiving preseason top-25 votes by United Soccer Coaches.
Knox held Illinois Wesleyan scoreless through the first half, but the Titans broke through with a goal in the 69th minute to take the lead.
Illinois Wesleyan added another goal less than three minutes later and then two more scores before the 80th minute.
Prairie Fire goalkeeper Sara Mirani racked up 18 saves on the night, including 12 in the second half.
"We did very wll fixing some of our focal points from previous games, such as building up our attack," said head coach Annie Gerdes. "We battled back well, but struggled to bounce back after their first goal. We have a lot of positives to take away from this game and we're excited to continue to build and prepare for the games ahead."
Knox will return to action on September 8 as they travel to Elmhurst for their final road game before their home opener.
