JACKSONVILLE, Illinois - The Prairie Fire women's basketball team defeated Illinois College 80-70 on Wednesday night to pick up their fifth straight victory.
The Lady Blues jumped out to an early 10-2 lead in the first quarter, but Knox stormed back to tie the game up at 13-13. Illinois College held a 23-19 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
To begin the second quarter, the Lady Blues expanded their lead to six. The Prairie Fire chipped away at the lead and took a 35-34 lead into halftime.
Knox built up a six point lead in the third quarter, but Illinois College tied the game at 52-52 to enter the final period.
The Prairie Fire used a 20-2 run to begin the fourth quarter and take a commanding lead and Knox cruised to victory.
Sarina Dacio shot 4-of-10 from long-range to lead Knox with 23 points. Kylee Callahan racked up 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Bria Medina picked up a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Loraya Rocha added 11 points and pulled down seven boards.
"We got off to a pretty slow start, but kept at it and finished strong," said head coach Seth McDowell. "IC is a very good team and definitely made it tough on us all game."
The Prairie Fire return to action on January 13 as they host Beloit.
