Women's Basketball Holds on for Victory Against Lawrence

GALESBURG, Illinois - The Prairie Fire women's basketball team came away with a 62-60 victory over Lawrence University Wednesday night. 

Lawrence took a quick 5-0 lead against Knox. The Prairie Fire fought their way back to an even 14-14 score near the end of the first quarter. Lawrence led 19-17 going into the second quarter.

Just a bit over half-way through the second quarter. the game came to a tie again with a 27-27 score. The Prairie Fire ended the second quarter with a 5-0 run, pushing them ahead 32-27 going into the half.

Knox stayed ahead for the whole third quarter, leading 49-39 going into the fourth quarter.

An 8-0 run from Lawrence late in the fourth quarter left the Prairie Fire ahead by just three points. Lawrence continued to close the gap, trailing by just one point with 1:41 left to play. The Prairie Fire maintained their lead to claim another victory.

Nyah Daniels led the Prairie Fire with 23 points thanks to a 4-8 showing from long-range. Bria Medina added 14 points, six rebounds and three steals. Kylee Callahan tacked on 10 points.

"We definitely came out hot today and ready to play" said Head Coach Seth McDowell. "We rebounded well tonight, and we played aggressive. We had a bit of trouble in the fourth quarter, but all in all we had a lot of positives tonight and we are ready to use those as we prepare to face Ripon."

The Prairie Fire will travel to Ripon on February 3rd for their next Midwest Conference match-up.
