ANDERSON, Indiana - The Prairie Fire baseball team opened the season at Anderson on Saturday with an 11-1 loss in 8 innings and a 6-5 loss in 10 innings.
Nick Henning gave up just one run through his first four innings in game one, but the Ravens broke through for three runs in the fifth en route to the win.
In game two, Knox struck first when Jason Clark singled through the right side to bring in Andrew Garrett. Anderson responded with two unearned runs in the bottom half to take the lead.Â
The Ravens added another run in the fourth, but Knox responded with two to tie the game in the top of the sixth inning. Anderson tacked on a run in the bottom of the seventh to take a 4-3 lead.
The Prairie Fire rallied to take a 5-4 lead in the top of the ninth inning. Knox got the first out in the bottom half, but the next two batters reached base. The next batter flew out, but the tying run scored on a passed ball before another flyout.
The Ravens were able to bring across a run in the bottom of the 10th inning to secure the victory.
Clark and Etienne Thomas notched four hits apiece on the day for the Prairie Fire. Clark drove in a pair. Thomas Wilmot added three hits. Garrett added two hits and walked three times out of the leadoff spot.
Brandon Ward started game two on the mound, giving up just two earned runs in seven innings pitched. He struck out eight.
Knox will return to action on March 3 as they finish the three game set at Anderson.
