DUBUQUE, Iowa — The men's and women's cross country teams of Knox College kicked off the 2024 season by running at the Bob Schultz Invite hosted by Loras College on Friday evening. Lance Miller claimed the top step on the podium among the college runners in the men's 5K as the junior recorded a time of 15:17.1. Buoyed by Miller's victory, the men placed fifth among the seven collegiate teams.
For the women, sophomore Cecelia Goodin led the Prairie Fire by placing 16th in the collegiate field as Knox took fourth place among the five schools on hand.Â
- The only runner to top Miller's time was a Loras alumnus, Kelly Wyatt, but only by a mere second (15:16.1).
- First-year Misha Ratner finished just outside the top 20 in his first collegiate race with a time of 16:20.1, good for 21st.
- The second Prairie Fire runner to cross the tape in the women's race was senior Franny Hilliard in 39th (23:13).
- If the Loras Alumni teams were included in the standings, they would have finished third on each side.
Knox will return to the trails in two weeks when the teams will race in the Pioneer Gender Equity Invite hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Sept. 14.
