GALESBURG, Ill. — The Knox College women's soccer team fell to the University of Dubuque on Wednesday afternoon at Jorge Prats Field by a final of 5-0 as forward Emma Kober scored a hat trick for the visiting Spartans (4-1-3). The loss dropped the Prairie Fire to 1-7 on the season.
Dubuque wasted little time in taking the lead, taking advantage of a foul in the box with Samantha Scodeller scoring on the penalty kick less than five minutes into the contest. Kober added her first two goals in the 12th and 30th minutes for a 3-0 lead at the intermission.
The final two goals came shortly after play resumed, first on a Kober penalty kick for her hat trick, then on a tally by Alyssa Tranchita assisted by Kober in the 53rd minute.
- Knox almost avoided the shutout with 24 minutes remaining when senior Aleene Ramirez sent a shot deep from the right of the net across to the other side, but Spartan reserve goalkeeper Samantha Jurgens deflected the ball just outside the post.
- Prairie Fire first-year goalkeepers Darby Wallig and Bri Mahoney combined to make nine saves.
Knox next plays in a week when the team travels to Grinnell College (3-2-1) for its Midwest Conference opener on Oct. 2 at 4 p.m. The game will be streamed live with stats available through PrairieFire.Knox.edu, the official website of Knox athletics.
