ELMHURST, Ill. — On a chilly evening at Elmhurst University's Langhorst Field, the Knox College women's soccer team lost its final non-conference game of the season as the host Bluejays (10-5-2) defeated the Prairie Fire (3-9-3) by a final score of 3-0.
Elmhurst outshot Knox on the night, 24-4, and while the Bluejays put 15 shots on goal, sophomore Prairie Fire goalkeeper Bri Mahoney made a career-high 12 saves.
The scoring began in the 21st minute when a pair of Elmhurst passes fed Kelly Coughlin right in front of the goal for the tally. The second goal came about eight minutes later off a corner kick that bounced off of a few players from both teams before the ball barely crossed the goal line for a 2-0 lead.
The score remained that way until just under six minutes remained when Nora Simon fired a shot from 27 yards out above the outstretched hands or Mahoney into the top right portion of the net.
- Four different players accounted for the Knox shots, none of which were on goal.
- This was the fifth game between the two schools on the pitch dating back to 2010 with Elmhurst winning all five.
Knox will look to snap a 27-game winless streak in the Midwest Conference when it travels to Cornell College next week on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 4:00 p.m. Fans can watch a live stream and keep up with the stats through the official website of Knox College Athletics, PrairieFire.Knox.edu, courtesy of Cornell College.
