GALESBURG, Ill. — The Knox College athletics department today revealed its Male and Female Athletes of the Week for events that occurred between Oct. 27-Nov. 2, and the awards went to sophomore Natalia Nuño of the women's soccer team and senior Lance Miller of the men's cross country squad.

Nuño, a native of Las Vegas, Nevada, could not have picked a better time to score her first goal of the season in a road match at Cornell College on Tuesday, Oct. 28. Her tally in the 84th minute snapped the scoreless duel and lifted the Prairie Fire to a 1-0 victory, snapping a 27-game winless streak against Midwest Conference opponents. Four days later, Nuño provided the lone shot on frame by a Knox player against Grinnell in the season finale, a match that was also scoreless at the half before the Pioneers left town with a victory.

At the Midwest Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1, Miller not only finished second in the men's 8K race for the second straight year, but he also shattered his own school record by more than 30 seconds. The native of Mascoutah, Illinois, tore up the trails in 24:28.7, easily surpassing the 25:00.86 he ran last year at the conference championships. Only one other runner in Prairie Fire history is within even a minute of his latest time, and just barely (25:28) a quarter century ago. Miller has the three fastest 8K times at Knox and five of the top 10.

The Knox Athletes of the Week will be announced every Tuesday afternoon throughout the athletic calendar.
