GALESBURG, Ill. — The Knox College athletics department announced its Male and Female Athletes of the Week for events that occurred between April 14-20, with the honors going to junior Thomas Wilmot of the baseball team and first-year Shari Willingham of the women's outdoor track and field team.

Wilmot, an outfielder from Suwanee, Georgia, caught fire at the plate at Lawrence over the weekend, going 5-for-9 with a double and the first two home runs of his career while scoring two runs and driving in four. It was his three-run blast that made the different in the 8-6 victory in the opening game against the Vikings as he reached base four times with two walks and a hit by pitch as well. In the doubleheader on Saturday, he had two hits in each game with his two-bagger in the first contest and a solo blast to deep center field in the finale. Wilmot entered the series hitting .250 and he ended it at .292.

A Chicago native, Willingham had her best performance in the women's high jump at the Meet of Champions, hosted by Augustana College in Rock Island on Thursday and Friday. She began at 1.34 meters (4 feet 4.75 inches) and cleared that on her first try. After advancing past 1.39 meters on her second try, she topped 1.44 meters on her first attempt. Willingham then cleared 1.49 meters (4 feet 10.5 inches) on her second attempt, a new personal best that also etched her name into Knox's top-10 performers list, which left her in ninth at the meet. She also ran a leg of the 4x100 meter relay team, which finished 13th.

The Knox Athletes of the Week will continue every Tuesday afternoon throughout the athletic calendar.
