GRINNELL, Iowa — The Midwest Conference revealed its all-conference teams for softball after the conference tournament concluded, and a pair of Knox College players received second-team honors — Haylee Carpenter and Maddie Poetzinger. This is the first year the Prairie Fire have had two selections since 2019.
A fifth-year second baseman from Santa Paula, California, Carpenter came back from missing all of last year to lead Knox with a .304 average, 28 hits and a pair of stolen bases while fielding her position at a .972 clip with just three errors. Against conference opponents, she had a stellar .425 average and .477 on-base percentage while scoring eight runs, all of which led the squad, and committed only one error in the field for a .981 fielding percentage.
Poetzinger, a native of Orland Park, Illinois, split time between shortstop and third baseman and made the second team as a utility player. In league play, she hit .324 while leading the Prairie Fire with two triples and six RBIs, and struck out just once in 37 at-bats. For the full season, she led the team in seven offensive categories, including doubles (2), triples (2), runs scored (12), RBIs (12) and walks (16). Poetzinger ended her four years at Knox having started every game (137) with 110 hits, 18 doubles, four triples, 48 runs and 51 RBIs.
