LAKE FOREST, Ill. — The Knox College women's soccer team did not have an answer for undefeated Lake Forest on Saturday afternoon, succumbing to the preseason favorite in the Midwest Conference opener for both teams, 4-0. The Foresters (10-0, 1-0 MWC) controlled the action, outshooting the Prairie Fire (3-5-1, 0-1 MWC) by a 25-5 margin.
Lake Forest took a quick lead less than three minutes into the contest on a goal by Anna Gracia. The offensive pressure kept coming as the Foresters put four more shots on goal in the next eight minutes, but sophomore keeper Darby Wallig turned each of them away. But after Knox's Aniela Rossi put the first Prairie Fire shot on goal in the 17th minute, Lake Forest added to its lead two minutes later on a goal by Riley Henrichs.
In the second half, Knox put sophomore Bri Mahoney in goal, and though she was able to make five saves, the Foresters were able to put two past her as well, in less than a minute's time before the 60-minute mark, the last by Gracia again.
- Senior Isabella Shubert put the only other Knox shot on goal, shortly after Lake Forest's second tally.
- The Prairie First have lost three straight since a four-match unbeaten streak.
- The Foresters have won the past four meetings, but over the last 13 meetings, it is a much closer battle with Knox barely trailing, 5-6-2.
Knox returns to Prats Field for its next match on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 4:30 p.m. against Illinois College (5-5-2, 1-0 MWC), which won its conference opener over Ripon today, 1-0. The match will be streamed live with stats for the match available through PrairieFire.Knox.edu, the official website of Knox College Athletics.
