The Knox College women took care of business on Saturday, dispatching Lake Forest 89-53.
The Prairie Fire maintained pace with the conference's top four, holding second place with a 5-2 league mark. The team improved to 6-9 overall this season.
Knox got off to a fast start, launching the game with a 15-0 run. Bria Medina registered eight of her team-high 26 points in that opening surge. Medina's remarkable night moved her into second place all-time in program scoring history.
Medina had plenty of help on the day, though, as Nayeli Nidez Acuna scored 10, Izzy Robinson tallied 13, Kylee Callahan added 19, and Brook Pieper notched eight. Overall, 11 players played, and nine scored as Knox dominated from start to finish, never trailing and leading for all but 13 seconds.
The Prairie Fire defense was up to the task, constantly harassing Lake Forest ballhandlers and shooters. Knox forced 28 Forester turnovers and held Lake Forest to 18-50 (36 percent) shooting. The Prairie Fire turned those 28 turnovers into 28 points, with many of their 13 fast-break points coming off steals (16) or turnovers.
Knox also excelled inside, producing 58 points in the paint and beating Lake Forest on the glass, 42-35. Of Knox's 42 rebounds, 13 came offensively, producing 22 second-chance points.
After the 15-0 run, Knox led 40-19 at halftime and extended the margin to as many as 41 points, 83-42, with 4:15 left.
As a team, Knox shot 34-73 (46.6 percent) from the field and 20-26 (76.9 percent) from the free-throw line.
