RIPON, Wisconsin – A strong season came to an end for the Knox College women's basketball team on Friday night.
In the semifinals of the Midwest Conference Tournament, the Prairie Fire saw their season come to an end, falling to a buzzsaw in Lawrence University by a final score of 76-47.
Knox trailed 14-7 in the first quarter but rallied back to take a 15-14 lead. However, Lawrence responded with a 15-0 run, taking a 29-15 lead in the second quarter. The Vikings were tough all night, using a suffocating defense to stymie the Knox Prairie Fire. After leading 18-15 after a quarter, Lawrence outscored Knox 42-17 in the second and third quarters to pull away.
Nayeli Nidez Acuña led Knox with 11 points. Bria Medina scored nine, Kylee Callahan finished with eight, and Xiyah Yarbrough added seven. Carly Smith finished with 10 rebounds while Callahan had a team-high five assists.
Knox ends the season 13-13 overall and with a third-place finish in the MWC.
