Box Score 3 The Knox College baseball team dropped its opening series of the season, falling in three contests at Anderson University over the weekend.
Two of the three contests were tight affairs, with the Prairie Fire (0-3) falling by a run twice.
In Saturday's opener, Knox nearly completed a late rally to top Anderson, but unfortunately fell in 12 innings, 4-3.
In that game, the Prairie Fire trailed 3-1 going into the top of the ninth, but rallied with two runs to force extra frames. Neither team could muster much offense until the bottom of the 12th, when Anderson pushed across the game-winning run.
Nicholas Nitti, Jacob Halseth, and Hayden Derlein each had an RBI. Halseth showed off a keen eye, drawing three walks.
In the second game of the day on Saturday, it was all Anderson, who won 10 in eight innings. The hosts were up 3-0 after an inning and kept the offense going against Knox.
In Sunday's finale, it was a pitching duel as Knox's Patrick Shannon, Joe Flores, Lucas Fuji, and Anthony Soliz combined to toss eight innings of one-run, 10-hit ball. Unfortunately for Knox, that one run was all the Ravens needed to eke out the win. Aidan McMurtrie paced the offense with a pair of hits.Â
Thomas Wilmot and McMurtrie led the offense over the weekend, each grabbing a pair of hits.Â
Knox is next in action this Wednesday, hitting the road to play at Eureka for a pair of games: the first at noon and the second at 2:30 p.m.
