On Monday, the Knox College baseball team ended play at the Russ Matt Central Florida Invitational with a 9-3 loss to Union College. In Florida, the Prairie Fire went 1-8, bringing their overall record to 2-14. This weekend, Knox returns home to open Midwest Conference play against Grinnell; the doubleheader begins at noon Saturday.
In the Florida finale, the Prairie Fire fell behind 5-0 after four innings. However, Knox was able to get on the scoreboard at the top of the fifth as Jacob Halseth scored on a balk. Later, the Prairie Fire added a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth on Tyler Kemp's two-run home run.
Both Halseth and Owen Shannon finished with a pair of hits, while Kemp contributed two RBI.
