Knox College and Monmouth College played another extra-inning game to close their three-game series. Unlike Saturday's 14-inning Knox win, this time the Fighting Scots prevailed, 10-6 in 11 innings on Monday.

After Monmouth scored four in the 11th, the Prairie Fire (5-23, 3-8) loaded the bases in the bottom half. A called third strike ended the game, giving Monmouth both the win and two of three in the series.

Monmouth scored single runs in the first and second. Knox responded in the bottom of the second: Clayton Rice's home run got Knox on the board, and Owen Shannon's sacrifice fly later that inning tied the game.

The game continued to go back and forth as Monmouth added three in the fourth, only to see Knox get a run back in the bottom of the inning as Shannon's RBI single made it a 5-3 Monmouth lead.

Joe Flores relieved Knox and kept the team in contention, pitching five innings of one-run ball. 

With Flores holding Monmouth, Knox rallied in the eighth. After Shannon and Nicholas Nitti reached base, Luke Mathieu's three-run homer to left tied it at 6-6.

Both teams went scoreless in the ninth and tenth before Monmouth scored four to clinch the game.

Knox is off Tuesday and visits Beloit on Wednesday at 1 p.m. This weekend, Knox hosts Lawrence for two Saturday games and one on Sunday.
