The Knox College softball team faced Blackburn in a nonconference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon in Galesburg. After five innings, they fell 11-1 in the opener and then dropped the second game, 10-2.
In the first contest, the Prairie Fire sent Blackburn down in order at the top of the first. Following this defensive start, they took their only lead of the game in the bottom of the inning.
Chelsea McKee started things with a double to center. After Maddie Hicks singled, McKee crossed the plate on a groundout to first from Victoria Torres.
However, that would be all the Knox offense could muster, as the Beavers responded by tallying six in the second, four in the third, and a single run in the fourth to secure the win.
Turning to the second game, the Prairie Fire fell behind 3-0, but rallied back with a run in the third on a Taylor Goudschaal single.
Despite the rally, Blackburn stretched the lead to 10-1 in the sixth inning before Janet Lentini drove home Victoria Torres for the final run.
