Women's basketball at Knox is full of energy and high-paced action. An aggressive defense combined with a quick transition offense gives Prairie Fire fans an exciting team to cheer for.

In recent years, the Prairie Fire women's basketball team has enjoyed its share of both team and individual success. Since the 2000 season, multiple Knox players have earned All-Midwest Conference accolades. Over the past four seasons through the 2024-25 campaign, no fewer than six players have received All-Midwest Conference First Team honors.

Players are able to enjoy top-notch facilities while playing. Prairie Fire home basketball games are played in Memorial Gymnasium on Tim Heimann Court, which boasts the largest seating capacity in the Midwest Conference. The E. & L. Andrew Fitness Center has state-of-the-art training equipment that rivals any college in the Midwest.

Competing in the Midwest Conference allows Knox to go up against some of the best NCAA Division III competition in the Midwest. The conference offers a playoff system that also gives the team a chance to advance to national competition. The 2022-23 season ended historically with Knox finishing with a program best 22-6 record. The Prairie Fire were 15-1 in the Midwest Conference and co-champions in the regular season before winning their first ever conference tournament.

Prairie Fire basketball players have gone on to a wide variety of successful careers. They include Lara Moritz '90 (English), a news anchor for KMBC TV in Kansas City, Missouri who was a member of the 1987-1988 Knox team that won a record 18 games and earned a share of the MWC South Division crown.   In addition, Brooke McKinney '99 (Psychology) served as the assistant athletic director and basketball coach at the Menlo School in Menlo Park, California. Chrystal Bell '97 (Biology) is a forensic scientist for the Oregon State Police. Kelly Warner '82 (Geology) is a hydrologist for the U.S. Geological Survey in Champaign, Illinois, and Jodi Marver ’15 was recently named an assistant women’s basketball coach at Midwest Conference rival Lake Forest College.
