Knox College Prairie Fire

Barry Swanson originally joined the Prairie Fire coaching staff during the 2008-2009 season and he returned prior to the 2013-2014 campaign.

Swanson has spent his entire coaching career in Galesburg, beginning with a two-year stint at Lombard Junior High School. He became the sophomore coach at Galesburg High School in 1974, and then served as the varsity head coach for the Silver Streaks for 12 seasons.  His teams won 203 games and claimed 16 championship trophies.

Swanson took over as the head men's basketball coach at Carl Sandburg College during the 1984-1985 season, leading the Chargers to a 31-4 record.

Besides coaching, Swanson is a visiting assistant professor in the Educational Studies department at Knox and he previously served as a member and president of the Galesburg District 205 Board of Education.
