Lake Forest College earned its third Midwest Conference victory Thursday night by defeating Knox College in three sets at Memorial Gymnasium.
The Foresters (10-12, 3-2 MWC) had five players with at least five kills and three with double-figure digs in the 25-16, 25-17, 25-16 win against the Prairie Fire.
Lake Forest finished the match with 38 kills to Knox College's 24. Junior Kelly Ricketts (Galesburg, Illinois) led the Fire with 11 kills and added nine digs. First-year hitter Kaylie Prince (Westminster, Colorado) added four kills and eight digs for the hosts.
The Foresters were led by Cori Cooper, Molly McCloskey and Megan Trubich with eight kills each. Mandi Mulliner added six and Kristen Braun five. Cooper also had 16 digs while Mulliner and Tia Rupnik chipped in with 13 apiece.
Other contributors for Knox (5-15, 0-5 MWC) were first-year setter Nina Mack (Algonquin, Illinois), who had 16 assists and five digs, sophomore Kristin McDonald (Chicago, Illinois) with five kills and 12 digs and junior Lisa Blagg (Winthrop Harbor, Illinois) - who served up three aces and recorded nine digs.
Both schools designated the contest their "Play for the Cure" match to help raise funds and awareness for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Knox concludes the home portion of its season Saturday with matches against Grinnell College and Iowa Wesleyan College. It's a triangular that begins with Knox playing Grinnell in a Midwest Conference match at 1:00 p.m., followed by Iowa Wesleyan taking on Grinnell at 3:00 p.m. and Knox squaring off at 5:00 p.m. against Iowa Wesleyan.
