Prairie Fire Volleyball

Team

The Knox College volleyball team's approach offers players the opportunity to compete and be part of a rising program. Prairie Fire volleyball is very team-oriented, working to develop not only each player's individual athletic skills but also leadership skills, cooperation, dedication, and perseverance that will enhance the student's life long after graduation from Knox.

The Prairie Fire volleyball team looks for athletic, self-motivated players who understand and enjoy the rigors of collegiate competition. The squad works to emphasize a proper balance between the players' athletic and academic lives.

Knox competes in the fall in a venue dedicated to volleyball -- Memorial Gymnasium, which has two side-by-side practice courts. The gym was renovated in the spring of 2016. The team plays approximately 30 matches each season at home and at various colleges and universities in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.

The volleyball team is able to fully utilize the state-of-the-art E. & L. Andrew Fitness Center, one of the best training facilities in the Midwest.

Prairie Fire volleyball players have gone on to a wide variety of successful careers. They include Fiona Gill '95 (Economics, Spanish), the vice president of client services at Analytic Innovations in Oak Lawn, Illinois. Heidi O'Neil '01 is a chemist for Pfizer in Durham, North Carolina, and Christina Wagner '01 (Psychology, International Relations) is a clinical psychologist at Rush Medical Center in Chicago.
