The Prairie Fire hoped to hand St. Norbert College a fourth straight loss, but the Green Knights put an end to their skid with a 3-1 win over Knox on Saturday at Memorial Gym.
St. Norbert came out strong and won the first game 25-9. The Prairie Fire bounced back to claim the second set 25-21 before falling by identical scores of 25-15 in the third and fourth sets.
The Midwest Conference leader in kills, Knox junior Kelly Ricketts (Galesburg, Illinois) had 11 against the Knights to go with five digs, two service aces, a solo block and a block assist. Â First-year hitter Kaylie Prince (Westminster, Colorado) added nine kills and six digs for the Prairie Fire.
St. Norbert's Laura Meehan had 11 kills to tie Ricketts for match-high honors while teammate Danielle Remy added nine kills. Meehan also had 18 digs and a block on the afternoon.
Leading Knox (5-13, 0-5) with 20 assists was first-year setter Nina Mack (Algonquin, Illinois), who also had nine digs.
The Prairie Fire will try to end a string of seven straight losses on Thursday at home against Lake Forest College in a 6:30 p.m. Midwest Conference match. The Foresters have lost three in a row to drop their record to 9-12 overall and 2-2 in league play.
