Galesburg, IL - The Prairie Fire had a hard time getting off shots while Beloit College built on a two-goal lead at intermission and won the Midwest Conference match 5-0 Sunday at Jorge Prats Field.
The Buccaneers (3-5-1, 2-1 MWC) scored early on Marc Robinson's first of four goals at 1:28 to give his team a 1-0 lead.
Robinson's second goal 42:06 into the match made it a 2-0 Beloit advantage at the intermission. Jackson Wilkins assisted on both scores by Robinson.
The Bucs outshot Knox (1-7, 0-2 MWC) 6-2 in the first half and 13-4 overall. Beloit got off 11 shots on goal to one for the Prairie Fire.
Robinson continued his big afternoon with another goal at 49:46, assisted by Wilkins, to extend the lead to 3-0. Wilkins put BC up 4-0 with a goal at 56:19 that Robinson assisted on.
Robinson scored for the fourth time in the match at 58:17, unassisted, as the Buccaneers grabbed a 5-0 lead. Wilkins, meanwhile, finished with three assists to go along with his second half goal.
Sophomore goalie Franz Huebner (Heredia, Costa Rica, Lincoln School) had six saves for Knox.
The Prairie Fire players warmed up in pink "Play for the Cure" tee shirts as part of an initiative to promote awareness for early detection of cancer and raise funds for cancer research and prevention.
Knox travels to St. Louis, Missouri on October 4 for a non-conference match against Webster University (4-5-1) at 4:00 p.m.
