The Prairie Fire lost its Midwest Conference finale 3-0 Saturday at Beloit College.
The Buccaneers (1-19, 1-6 MWC) won the first set 25-16, then went on to complete the sweep 25-20 and 25-13.
Beloit jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first set and never looked back. The Prairie Fire held a 5-3 lead on a kill by junior Kristin McDonald (Chicago, Illinois) in the second set. The Bucs answered with by scoring 13 of the next 20 points to go up 18-10.
The Fire rallied with five straight after trailing 23-14 to pull within four (23-19). Beloit scored two of the next three points to take a 2-0 lead.
Knox (0-23, 0-9 MWC) scored the first point of the third set on attack error by the Bucs. The Prairie Fire led 2-1 before the Buccaneers made their move, scoring nine of the next 10 points for a 10-3 lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Sophomore Kaylie Prince (Westminster, Colorado) had seven kills to lead Knox. Senior Kelly Ricketts (Galesburg, Illinois) had a team-high 12 digs. She and first-year Katie White (Peoria, Illinois) added two blocks apiece. Sophomore Nina Mack (Algonquin, Illinois) contributed 18 assists.
The Prairie Fire plays its home finale October 27 against Eureka College at 7:30 p.m.
