The Prairie Fire played a strong second half in a loss October 22 at Lawrence University and a solid first half in a defeat October 23 at St. Norbert College.

The Prairie Fire was unable to put together two good halves in 4-1 and 5-1 setbacks against the Vikings (6-9-1, 5-2-1 MWC) and the Green Knights (2-13-1, 2-5-1 MWC).
Lawrence scored the first of three first half goals 6:41 into the match while holding Knox scoreless for a 3-0 advantage after 45:00 play.
The Prairie Fire cut the Viking lead to 3-1 when sophomore Dillon Kostka (Coal Valley, IL, Orion High School) scored his first goal of the season, unassisted, at 51:12.
Lawrence held Knox scoreless the rest of the way while adding a goal at the 63:23 mark to stay in contention for a spot in the Midwest Conference Tournament.
Carroll University (8-6-1, 7-0-0 MWC) clinched the conference title with a pair of wins over the weekend, including a 3-0 victory against second place Monmouth College (8-5-2, 5-1-2 MWW) that snapped the Scots' stretch of eight straight matches without a loss.
Beloit College (6-7-2, 5-2-1 MWC) and Lawrence are tied for the third and fourth spots while Lake Forest College (11-2-3, 3-2-2 MWC) is still alive for a berth in the tournament with matches remaining at Knox and Carroll.
The Vikings outshot the Prairie Fire 15-7 overall -- including 10-2 in the second half -- and 10-4 on goal. Sophomore Franz Huebner (Heredia, Costa Rica, Lincoln School) had six saves in goal for Knox.
St. Norbert snapped a six match losing streak and won its first home contest of the season against the Prairie Fire.
The Knights scored at 18:07 on a penalty kick and again at 22:38 before the Fire's Marcos Moreno (East Moline, IL, United Township High School) responded with a goal at 30:51 to cut the deficit in half at 2-1. The senior scored on a corner kick by sophomore Maxwell Gatyas (Plymouth, WI, Plymouth High School), who was credited with the assist.
St. Norbert took a 3-1 lead at the 46:12 mark, and added the final two goals of the match at 52:22 and 61:25 to earn the win.
Knox (1-13, 0-6 MWC) outshot the hosts 11-10 in the first half, but SNC held a 14-4 edge in the second frame and 24-15 overall.
Huebner had six saves in goal for the Prairie Fire, which dropped its 12th straight match.
Knox welcomes Illinois College (7-6-3, 2-4-1 MWC) to Jorge Prats Field on October 26 at 3:30 p.m.
The Blueboys are coming off a 2-1 loss at Beloit on October 23 that snapped a string of three straight wins.
