Late Goal by IC Defeats Men's Soccer

Galesburg, IL - The Prairie Fire played even with Illinois College until the last six minutes of the match, when the Blueboys scored and escaped with a 1-0 win Wednesday at Jorge Prats Field.Prairie Fire Men's Soccer vs. IC

IC (8-6-3, 3-4-1 MWC) saw its streak of three straight victories snapped and hopes of a trip to the conference tournament dashed, 2-1 at Beloit College on October 23. 

The Prairie Fire (1-14, 0-7 MWC) outshot the Blueboys 11-7 overall and held IC to only three shots on goal.  But one of the three, taken by Evan Baker, got past Knox sophomore goalie Franz Huebner (Heredia, Costa Rica, Lincoln School) at the 84:29 mark of the match.  The goal proved to be the winner as the Fire couldn't score over the remaining 5:31 of the contest.

Huebner had two saves in a strong performance minding the net.  Illinois College goalie Trevor Donahue had six saves and earned the shutout.

The Prairie Fire tries again for its first conference win in the home finale October 29 against Lake Forest College.  The match at Jorge Prats Field follows the women's match at approximately 3:30 p.m.
