Volleyball Team Celebrates Senior Night with Win

The Prairie Fire ended the home portion of its 2011 schedule in style, beating Eureka College 3-0 Thursday on Senior and Parents Night at Memorial Gymnasium.

Knox started strong, winning the first set 25-12.  The Fire never let up, taking the next two sets 25-12 and 25-15 against the Red Devils (7-17).  Eureka had won three of its last five matches coming in.

Senior players Kelly Ricketts (Galesburg, Illinois), Stef Baker (Galesburg, Illinois), and Lisa Blagg (Winthrop Harbor, Illinois) were recognized with their families before the match.  The three were major contributors to the Knox victory.

Senior student-assistant coach Jack Moore was honored for his service to the volleyball program as well.

Senior Night vs. Eureka CollegeRicketts led everyone with 10 kills in her final match at Memorial Gym.  Baker had a season-high seven kills while Blagg finished with a team-high 13 digs.

The Prairie Fire also received strong performances by junior Kristin McDonald (Chicago, Illinois), sophomore Nina Mack (Algonquin, Illinois), first-year Katie White (Peoria, Illinois), and sophomore Kaylie Prince (Westminster, Colorado).

McDonald had four kills, four of Knox's nine aces, 14 assists and nine digs.  Mack added a match-high 18 assists, White had seven kills, and Prince chipped in with five kills and four digs.

The Fire plays its final match of the season on the road Saturday against Robert Morris University of Peoria.
