Season Ending Defeat for Men's Soccer at Grinnell

Grinnell, IA - The Prairie Fire ran into the wrong team at the wrong time as Grinnell College rolled to an 8-1 victory at home in the season finale for both teams.

The Pioneer goal total is the most by a Grinnell soccer team since a 1987 win against Cornell College.

Knox stayed with Grinnell (5-10-2, 3-5-1 MWC) until the 31:10 mark of the match, when the Pioneers scored their third goal and began a run of six unanswered scores.

Knox (1-16, 0-9 MWC) cut a 2-0 Grinnell College lead in half 22:52 into the contest on a goal by senior Jack Barthell (Bloomington, MN, Jefferson High School).

The Pioneers added one more first half score at 41:35 for a 4-1 advantage at the intermission.

Grinnell shut Knox out in the second half while scoring in the 53rd, 73rd, 87th, and 88th minutes.

The Pioneers outshot the Fire 35-10 overall and 19-7 on goal.  The 35 shots are the third most in school history.

Sophomore Franz Huebner (Heredia, Costa Rica, Lincoln School) recorded 11 saves for Knox.
