Second Half Goals by Ripon Defeat Men's Soccer Team

Galesburg, IL - After a scoreless first half, Ripon College found its offense and defeated the Prairie Fire 3-0 Saturday in a Midwest Conference match at Jorge Prats Field.

Ripon (4-5-3, 2-1-1 MWC) broke the tie on a goal by Alvaro Calle at 59:39 to take a 1-0 lead.  Less than 10 minutes later, the Red Hawks extended its lead to 2-0 when Derek Puckett scored at the 68:50 mark.

Ripon scored its third a final goal of the match when Austin Van Treek got a shot past Prairie Fire sophomore goalie Franz Huebner (Heredia, Costa Rica, Lincoln School) at 74:42.

The Red Hawks outshot Knox (1-9, 0-3 MWC) 16-6, including 8-6 on goal.  Ripon goalie Daniel Mikesell had six saves and recorded the shutout. 

Huebner had five saves for Knox.

The Prairie Fire resumes play Sunday, October 9 against Benedictine College (IL) at Jorge Prats Field.  The teams were originally scheduled to play on September 18, but the match was postponed due to heavy rain.

The Eagles own a 3-3-1 record.  The match begins at 4:00 p.m.
