Galesburg, IL - The Prairie Fire got its offense going in the second half, but Benedictine University's ability to score throughout the match proved too much to overcome in a 5-3 Knox loss Sunday afternoon at Jorge Prats Field.
The Eagles (4-3-1) led 1-0 on a goal by Sam Odele 12:48 into the match. Benedictine quickly extended the advantage to 2-0 on Tyler Polanski's header at the 14:15 mark. Mostafa Abdelrahman made it 3-0 when he scored at 30:39.
The Prairie Fire (1-10) got on the board when junior Donald Tchopya (San Francisco, CA, Galileo Academy of Science and Technology) slipped a shot past BU goalie Manny Martinez to cut the Eagles' lead to 3-1.
Benedictine, however, responded with two straight goals, both by Abdelrahman, at 62:55 and 72:26 to lead 5-1.
Knox continued to attack and Tchopya scored his second goal of the match -- and fourth of the season -- at 85:45. Senior Jack Barthell (Bloomington, MN, Jefferson High School) scored the final goal for the Fire at the 88:23 mark.
Knox outshot Benedictine 16-14 while the Eagles had 11 shots on goal to 10 for the Prairie Fire.
Sophomore goalie Franz Huebner (Heredia, Costa Rica, Lincoln School) had six saves for Knox. Martinez recorded seven for BU.
