Women's Basketball Drops Shootout at Eureka

Eureka, IL - The Prairie Fire had five players score in double figures but it wasn’t enough in a 117-98 loss Thursday night at Eureka College.

The Red Devils (2-0) jumped out to a 60-53 lead at halftime on the strength of 54 percent shooting while making 15-of-21 from the free throw line.  Knox (0-2) shot well from 3-point range in the first half, making 8-of-17, and connected on 44 percent overall and 7-of-9 from the foul line.

Eureka took control in the second half, outscoring the Prairie Fire 57-45.

The Red Devils continued to shoot well, knocking down 49 percent from the floor in the half to finish at 51 percent (40-of-78).  Knox couldn’t keep pace, shooting 32 percent in the half -- including 2-of-23 from long range -- and 37.5 percent (36-of-96) overall. 

Eureka held a significant advantage at the foul line, outscoring the Fire 36-16.  The Red Devils also outrebounded Knox 59-46. 

Caty Eeten was a thorn in the side of the Prairie Fire.  She led everyone with 49 points and 12 rebounds.

Senior Krystyna Williams (Evanston, IL, Evanston Township) had a double-double for Knox with 14 points and 11 rebounds.  First-year Becky Duffy (Chicago, IL, Northside Prep) also had 14 points, followed by junior Sara Johnson (Grinnell, Iowa, Grinnell) with 13, sophomore Grace Theisen (Minneapolis, MN, Southwest) with 12, and first-year Brittney Price (Wyoming, IL, Stark County) with 10 points.

The Prairie Fire plays its home opener November 28 against Central College (IA).  The tip-off is at 6:00 p.m.
