Galesburg, IL - The Prairie Fire came up short in a bid to win a second straight game, falling instead to Grinnell College 72-64 Wednesday night at home.
The Prairie Fire (1-5, 1-2 MWC) led the Pioneers 42-37 at halftime. The difference was at the foul line, where Knox outscored Grinnell 12-7.
The Pioneers (3-4, 2-1 MWC) came to life offensively in the second half, shooting 54 percent while holding the Prairie Fire to 22.5 percent, including 0-for-13 from the 3-point line.
Grinnell took the lead for good at 54-53 with 8:26 left in the game and extended it to 68-57 with 2:37 to go to seal the victory.
Krystyna Williams had a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds for Knox. Jodi Marver and Kelly Ricketts contributed 10 points apiece.
Michelle Briggs had a double-double for the Pioneers with 26 points and 14 rebounds.
