Monmouth, IL - The Prairie Fire swimming teams came up short in a dual at Monmouth College on Saturday.
The Fighting Scots edged the Knox women's team by just 12 points, 131-119, while the Prairie Fire men's team lost to Monmouth 123-76.
Seniors Bess Cooley, Torry Kassabaum, and Tyler O'Neill were among the Knox swimmers that won at least two events.
Cooley led the way with three wins: the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, and 400 IM. Kassabaum placed first in the 1000 freestyle and the 200 backstroke while O'Neill won the men's 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly races.
"Tyler had some really good swims," said Knox coach Jonathan Powers. "(Tyler) coming back to beat Josh Dunn in the last 25 of the 100 Fly was probably the most exciting event of the meet."
Senior Laura Blue also posted a win in the 500 freestyle.
Powers was pleased with the effort by his swimmers. "We had a lot of really good swims and I'm really proud of the way the team swam in this first meet after the winter break."
The Prairie Fire takes part in the Eureka Invitational on January 21 at Eureka College. The competition begins at 11:00 a.m.
