Galesburg, IL – The Prairie Fire couldn’t muster quite enough offense in a 2-1 loss to Carroll University on Homecoming at Jorge Prats Field.
The Pioneers (8-6-1, 6-1-1 MWC) remain in the hunt for the regular season Midwest Conference title. Colton Woyak gave Carroll a 1-0 lead when he scored at the 18:16 mark. The Knox defense held the Pioneers scoreless over the rest of the first half of the contest.
Carroll took a 2-0 lead at the 54:35 mark on a goal by Dan Czernicki. The Prairie Fire (5-7-2, 1-4-2 MWC) denied the Pioneers a shutout. First-year Charles Edemba (Abia, Nigeria, Santana Rhetoric Institute) scored his third goal of the season at 88:53 on an assist by junior Maxwell Gatyas (Plymouth, WI, Plymouth) to trim the deficit to 2-1.
Carroll held the edge on shots 14-9 and shots on goal 7-2.
First year goalie Sean McGovern (Chicago, IL, Niles Notre Dame) recorded five saves for Knox, which dropped its third straight match.
The Fire will try to rebound on Sunday at home against Beloit College. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
