Box Score
Galesburg, IL – A big time scorer for Beloit College helped lead the Buccaneers past the Prairie Fire in an intense match on Sunday at Jorge Prats Field.
Marc Robinson entered the contest with 11 goals this season for the Bucs, and it didn’t take long for him to get going.
It also didn’t take long for Beloit (11-3-1, 6-2-1 MWC) to get on the board as Anthony Racine scored just 1:56 into the match for a 1-0 lead.
Knox (5-8-2, 1-4-2 MWC) tied the score at 1-1 on a goal by senior Donald Tchopya (San Francisco, CA, Galileo Academy of Science and Technology) – his sixth of the season.
Robinson put the Buccaneers back on top with a goal at 29:16 for a 2-1 lead, which was the score at the intermission.
The Prairie Fire again tied Beloit on the fifth goal of the season by first-year Nathaniel Logie (Trinidad and Tobago, Queens Royal College) at the 51:44 mark.
Robinson banged home his second goal of the contest at 54:58 for a 3-2 Beloit advantage. He then scored what turned out to be the winning goal, his 14th of the season, about 2 1/2 minutes later for a 4-2 lead.
Knox pulled within striking distance when sophomore Jacob Polay (Galesburg, IL, Galesburg) scored his fifth goal this season at the 82:54 mark, electrifying a large crowd that turned out to watch the contest.
The Prairie Fire, however, were unable to score again in a very chippy match that included a combined 24 fouls and eight yellow cards against the teams.
Knox, which outshot Beloit 12-9 overall, will try to snap a string of four straight defeats on Thursday at home against Illinois College at 3:00 p.m. The teams were slated to play earlier this month at Prats Field, but the match was postponed because of rain, thunder, and lightning.
