Women's Soccer Unable to Win Third Straight Against IC

Match shortened because of stormy weather

Galesburg, IL – The Prairie Fire was unable to continue its winning streak against Illinois College as the Lady Blues prevailed in a shortened Midwest Conference match 3-0 on Thursday.

The start of the match was delayed 30 minutes by thunder and lightning.  The players were called off the field and the contest was stopped at the 83:26 mark when thunder and lightning returned.

Illinois College (5-7-1, 1-3-1 MWC) snapped a string of three straight matches without a win or a goal and defeated the Prairie Fire (2-7, 0-4 MWC) for the first time since the 2009 season.  Knox dropped its second straight.

IC took a 1-0 lead with a goal at the 21:02 mark and maintained the advantage until intermission. 

The Lady Blues made it 2-0 score with a goal at 64:22 and added a final tally at 72:52.

IC outshot the Prairie Fire 28-12, including 16-1 on goal.  Junior Rachael Koene (Golden Valley, MN, Benilde-St. Margaret's) had 13 saves for Knox in the net.

Knox tries to end a two-match slide and win for the first time this season in conference play on October 6 at Cornell College.  The Rams (1-9, 0-5 MWC) have also lost two straight going into the contest, which begins at 11:00 a.m.
