St. Louis, MO – The Prairie Fire played strong competition, including the nation’s top ranked team, at the Bears Classic Tournament hosted by Washington University of St. Louis.

Bears Classic Tournament at Washington University – St. Louis
Match #4 vs. Central College
Knox dropped its final match of the tourney to Central in three sets: 13-25, 17-25, 21-25.
Junior Kaylie Prince (Westminster, CO, Standley Lake) led the Prairie Fire (2-21) with seven kills, 11 digs, and three aces. Junior Amber Eisha (South Wilmington, IL, Gardner-South Wilmington) and senior Kristin McDonald (Chicago, IL, Regina Dominican) each put down six kills. Eisha also had eight digs and three aces while McDonald added six digs. First-year Casey Stachelski (Joliet, IL, Plainfield) had a match-high 18 assists to go along with six digs.
Knox resumes play on October 9 with a Midwest Conference match at Cornell College. The contest will be streamed live on the Web beginning at 6:55 p.m.
Match #3 vs. Westminster College
Knox, in the team’s first match of the day on Saturday, was downed by Westminster 3-0: 12-25, 25-27, 8-25.
Juniors Kaylie Prince (Westminster, CO, Standley Lake) and Amber Eisha (South Wilmington, IL, Gardner-South Wilmington), and senior Kristin McDonald (Chicago, IL, Regina Dominican) each had six kills for the Prairie Fire. Prince also had seven digs while Eisha and McDonald had four digs apiece. First-year Casey Stachelski (Joliet, IL, Plainfield) led Knox (2-20) with 16 assists.
The Prairie Fire meets Central College in the squad’s last match of the tournament.
Match #2 vs. #1 Wash U.
Knox put up a fight but fell to NCAA Division III #1 ranked Washington University of St. Louis 3-0.
The Bears (18-1) posted set victories of 25-9, 25-7, 25-12 against the Prairie Fire (2-19).
Kaylie Prince had six kills and Casey Stachelski added 10 assists and three digs.
Knox plays the first of two matches on Saturday against Westminster College at 10:00 a.m. The final contest for the Fire is against Central College (IA) at 12:15 p.m.
Match #1 vs. Monmouth College
Knox lost its first match of the tournament, a non-conference contest against Monmouth 3-0 (17-25, 17-25, 14-25).
Senior Kristin McDonald (Chicago, IL, Regina Dominican) led the way for the Prairie Fire (2-18) with nine kills and shared team-high honors with nine digs. Junior Kaylie Prince (Westminster, CO, Standley Lake) added seven kills and first-year Casey Stachelski (Joliet, IL, Plainfield) had 17 assists and nine digs against the Fighting Scots (12-6).
Knox plays host Wash U. in its last match of the day on Friday.
