Galesburg, IL – The Prairie Fire looks to start a winning streak after defeating Robert Morris University of Peoria 8-0 on Monday afternoon at Jorge Prats Field.

Sophomore Ella Petersen (Wilmette, IL, Lake Forest Academy) scored the first of her three goals at the 10:51 mark to give Knox (3-8) a 1-0 lead.  Senior Arielle Dorman (Bothell, WA, Inglemoor), who also had a big afternoon, assisted on Petersen’s score.

Dorman scored back-to-back unassisted goals in the 18th and 20th minutes to increase the Prairie Fire lead to 3-0.  Petersen gave the Prairie Fire a 4-0 advantage going into the intermission on her second goal, assisted by junior Brynn Cole (Corrales, NM, Bosque School).

Dorman achieved the hat trick with her third goal at 45:57, and then assisted on a score by Cole at 48:41 that made it 6-0.

Petersen added her third goal of the contest at 67:56.  First-year Stephanie Nguyen (Matteson, IL, Rich South) drove home the final goal of the afternoon on an assist by Dorman – her third – to account for the final score.

Both Dorman and Petersen lead the team with seven goals apiece this season.

Knox dominated the match in snapping a string of three straight losses.  The Eagles (1-9) had just stopped an eight-match slide of their own before playing the Prairie Fire.

Knox got off 34 shots, including 20 on goal, while holding RMU-Peoria to no shots.

The Prairie Fire used five different players in goal and they combined for the shutout.

Knox goes for a second straight win on October 10 at Millikin University in Decatur.  The match begins at 2:00 p.m.
