Men's Tennis Defeats Ripon

Fond du Lac, WI – The Prairie Fire picked up its second win of the season in convincing fashion, downing Ripon College 8-1 on Saturday.

Knox (2-1) won five of the six singles matches and swept the doubles competition against the Red Hawks.

Senior Erik Hane (Littleton, CO, Mullen) cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory in his #1 singles match.  First-year  Karolis Ruzgas (Downers Grove, IL, Downers Grove North) fought hard for his 6-7, 7-6, 10-6 triumph at #3 singles while junior Shaun Mulani (Bourbonnais, IL, Bradley-Bourbannais), junior David Ham (Lakewood, WA, Shadow Ridge), and first-year Walter Palmer (Wilmette, IL, New Trier) had relatively easy wins in #4 through #6 singles.

The Prairie Fire’s #1 doubles team of Hane and Mulani posted an 8-3 victory.  Ruzgas and Palmer also won 8-3 at #2 doubles and the #3 doubles team of Ham and first-year Jonathan Ng (Hong Kong, China) came away with an 8-2 win.

Ham and Palmer both improved to 3-0 in singles play in the team's first three matches.

Ripon (0-2) prevented the shutout by winning at #2 singles.

The Prairie Fire resumes play in Wisconsin on Sunday against Carroll University (2-0).
