Jacksonville, IL – Prairie Fire runners made three new additions to the indoor track and field record books during the Jim Green Classic last Saturday at Illinois College.
The Knox women’s squad finished 14th out of 19 in the team standings. The Knox men placed 15th overall out of 18 teams. Monmouth College won the women’s team title and Lincoln College was the men’s team champion.
Sophomore Gabe Moreno (Galesburg, IL, Galesburg ) scored points for the Prairie Fire men by placing 6th overall in the 5000 meter run. His time of 15:51.41 ranks 7th on the Knox indoor track and field all-time performance list for the event and 4th on the all-time individual list.
Moreno’s previous best time in the 5K was 15:52.12.
Junior Joseph Puntoriero (Cheektowaga, NY, Cleveland Hill) finished in 6th place in the 200 meter dash in a time of 23.03 seconds. The effort ranks 3rd on the all-time performance list. Puntoriero already owns the second fastest time in school history, 22.99 seconds, set earlier this season at the Titan Invitational hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University.
The men’s team also scored points when sophomore Tyler Buddell (Lake Bluff, IL, Lake Forest ) turned in a 6th place finish in the 3000 meter race walk.
The third all-time top 10 mark was set by senior Rayann Parkinson (Aledo, IL, Aledo). She finished in 7th place in the 400 meter dash in 1:03.60. The time ranks #9 on the Knox women’s team’s all-time individual list for the event.
The Prairie Fire also scored points when sophomore Huong Bui (Portland, OR, Cleveland) placed 5th in the 3000 meter race walk and the 4x200 meter relay team crossed the finish line in 7th place (1:55.52).
Next up for the indoor track and field teams is the second home meet of the season, the Knox Open.
The six-team meet at T. Fleming Fieldhouse is on February 11 and begins at 10:00 a.m.
