Galesburg, IL – The Prairie Fire couldn’t overcome St. Norbert College in the home opener on March 3 at the Merdian Tennis Courts.
The Green Knights won five of the six singles matches and defeated Knox 6-3. Junior David Ham (Lakewood, WA, Shadow Ridge) won his #5 singles matchup against SNC’s Josh Sweere 7-6, 6-3.
The Prairie Fire (3-4) fared better in doubles play, winning two of the three matches.
First-year Karolis Ruzgas (Downers Grove, IL, Downers Grove North) teamed up with junior Shaun Mulani (Bourbonnais, IL, Bradley-Bourbannais) to beat Tim Hartwick and Costin Fink 8-6 in their #2 match. Ham, who had a perfect day, and first-year Jonathan Ng (Hong Kong, China) defeated Sweere and Matt Lobeck 8-4 in the #3 flight.
Ham improved his record to 5-2 in singles play this season, including 4-1 at #5. He’s undefeated, 4-0, at #3 doubles.
The Prairie Fire travels to Florida for Spring Break matches March 13 through 19.
