Galesburg, IL – The Prairie Fire ended regular season play on a high note, beating Illinois College 9-0 at the Merdian Tennis Courts.
Knox (5-12, 1-3 MWC South) dominated on Saturday against the Blueboys (1-11, 0-4). First-year Walter Palmer (Wilmette, IL, New Trier) and junior David Ham (Lakewood, WA, Shadow Ridge) both won their matches, #4 and #6 singles, respectively, 6-0 and 6-0.
Palmer leads the Prairie Fire with eight singles victories this season. Ham is next with seven wins. The other singles winners for Knox were senior Erik Hane (Littleton, CO, Mullen) at #1, first-year Karolis Ruzgas (Downers Grove, IL, Downers Grove North) at #2, first-year Jonathan Ng (Hong Kong, China) at #3 and junior Shaun Mulani (Bourbonnais, IL, Bradley-Bourbannais) at #5.
The Prairie Fire rolled in doubles play as well, allowing just one point in the three matches.
The #1 doubles team of Hane and Palmer won 8-0. Ruzgas and Mulani also won 8-0 in #2 doubles. The #3 doubles team of Ng and Ham was victorious 8-1.
Next up for the Prairie Fire are the Midwest Conference Doubles Championships on April 28 and the singles championships on April 29 in Madison, Wisconsin.
The league’s South Division is being represented by Grinnell College and Monmouth College in the MWC Team Championships on April 27 in Madison. The North Division representatives will be decided after Sunday’s scheduled matches.
