Galesburg, IL - The Prairie Fire cruised to a 9-0 non-conference victory at home on Thursday against Eureka College.

The win was the first for Knox at the Merdian Tennis Courts in three tries this season.  It also snapped a string of seven straight setbacks, although some of those losses were against opponents from NCAA Division I and II over Spring Break in Florida.

Senior Erik Hane (Littleton, CO, Mullen), first-year Walter Palmer (Wilmette, IL, New Trier), junior David Ham (Lakewood, WA, Shadow Ridge), and junior Shaun Mulani (Bourbonnais, IL, Bradley-Bourbannais) did not allow a point to their opponents in winning their #1, #3, #4, and #5 singles matches.   First-year  Karolis Ruzgas (Downers Grove, IL, Downers Grove North) was victorious 6-1, 6-0 at #2 singles and junior Mike Carr (Niles, IL, Niles Notre Dame High School) earned his first win of the season at #6 singles 6-0, 7-5.

Knox’s #1 doubles team of Hane and Palmer and the #3 doubles team of David Ham and Caleb Thompson (Galesburg, IL, Galesburg) won 8-0.  The #2 doubles duo of Ruzgas and Mulani posted an 8-2 victory.

The Prairie Fire (4-10) resumes play April 12 in a Midwest Conference match at Lake Forest College.
