Galesburg, IL – Roosevelt University scored early in overtime to defeat the Prairie Fire 3-2 in a hard-fought match on Monday at Jorge Prats Field.
First-year Knox midfielder Abby Jackson (Poplar Grove, IL, Belvidere North), with her team trailing 2-1, scored at the 86:51 mark to tie the contest and ultimately send it into the extra frame.
Roosevelt (1-2) claimed the victory 23 seconds into overtime when Ahissa Bustos scored her second goal of the match. Her first goal at 10:54 gave the Lakers a 1-0 lead.
Sophomore Ella Petersen (Wilmette, IL, Lake Forest Academy) found the back of the net for the Prairie Fire at 36:01 to tie the match at 1-1.
The Lakers grabbed a 2-1 lead at the 64:49 mark on a goal by Rubby Moran, followed by Jackson’s second score of the season for Knox 22 minutes later.
Roosevelt outshot the Prairie Fire 16-6, including 8-3 on goal. Knox goalie, junior Rachael Koene (Golden Valley, MN, Benilde-St. Margaret's), had five saves.
The Prairie Fire heads out on the road for the first time this season on September 7 against Westminster College (MO). The match starts at 5:00 p.m.
