Wesleyan escapes Prairie Fire with win on home floor

Mount Pleasant, IA – The Prairie Fire lost a pair of non-conference matches on Tuesday night at Iowa Wesleyan College.

Knox met Hannibal-LaGrange University in the first match.  The Trojans posted a 3-0 win: 25-18, 25-16, 25-17.

Senior Kristin McDonald (Chicago, IL, Regina Dominican) had four kills and eight digs to lead Knox.  Junior Kaylie Prince (Westminster, CO, Standley Lake) also had four kills to go along with six digs while first-year Casey Stachelski (Joliet, IL, Plainfield) added eight assists, six digs, and a block.

The Prairie Fire played host Iowa Wesleyan in the second match.  The Tigers prevailed in a close contest 3-2. 

Wesleyan won the first set 25-20 and the third set 25-17.  Knox (0-5) took the second set 25-18 and the fourth 25-23, forcing the deciding fifth set.  The Prairie Fire was unable win a second straight set and claim the match as the Tigers held on 15-12.

McDonald led Knox with 13 kills and 13 digs.  Prince added nine kills and nine digs while Stachelski had 21 assists and eight digs.  Sophomore Becky Duffy (Chicago, IL, Northside Prep) contributed 10 digs and four blocks and junior Amber Eisha (South Wilmington, IL, Gardner-South Wilmington) put down five kills to go along with 10 digs and two blocks.

Knox is back in action on September 8 at the Barker Fall Classic, hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University.  The Prairie Fire plays Concordia University of Wisconsin at 10:00 a.m. and Fontbonne University at 2:00 p.m.
