Surging St. Norbert one point out of first place

De Pere, WI – St. Norbert College continued its recent surge with a 6-0 Midwest Conference win at home against the Prairie Fire on Sunday.

The win was the fifth in the last six matches for the Green Knights (9-3-1, 5-1 MWC), who moved within a point of first place Grinnell College in the league standings.

MWC leading scorer Katie Vanden Avond gave St. Norbert a 1-0 lead with a goal 13:01 into the match.  She scored again at the 16:09 mark and earned a hat trick with her 25th goal of the season at 24:31to extend the SNC lead to 3-0.

The Green Knights led 5-0 at the intermission following a goal at 29:57 and an own goal by Knox 30 seconds later.  SNC scored for the last time in the 50th minute.

The Prairie Fire did not get off a shot as the Green Knights improved to 6-0-1 at home this season.

Senior Rachael Koene (Golden Valley, MN, Benilde-St. Margaret's) recorded a career-high 17 saves in goal for Knox (6-8, 0-6 MWC).

The Prairie Fire resume play on October 19 against Lake Forest College.  The Homecoming match against the Foresters (9-4, 4-2 MWC) at 1:00 p.m. is also the 2013 home finale and Senior Day at Jorge Prats Field.
