Orlando, FL - The Prairie Fire began spring break competition in the Sunshine State with a 5-4 loss to Western New England University on Tuesday.
Knox (4-9) took two of the three doubles contests against WNU, but the Golden Bears (1-3) posted four wins in singles play at Star Island Resort.
Prairie Fire sophomore Walter Palmer (Wilmette, IL, New Trier) was victorious in his #2 singles match 6-3, 6-4. Senior David Ham (Lakewood, WA, Shadow Ridge) defeated his #4 singles opponent 6-2, 6-1.
Knox’s #1 doubles team of Palmer and sophomore Karl Ruzgas (Downers Grove, IL, Downers Grove North) won their match 8-5 while Ham and sophomore Jonathan Ng (Hong Kong, China, Hong Kong International School) downed WNU’s #2 doubles team 8-6.
Next up for the Prairie Fire is a match against University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (13-5) at Oak Street Park. The start time is scheduled at 12:00 p.m. EST.
